Matthew L. Behan, D.O., Joins Safe Harbor Behavioral Health

ERIE – Matthew L. Behan, D.O., psychiatrist, has joined the staff of Safe Harbor Behavioral Health as Medical Director starting July, 2008.

"It is with much excitement that I announce the arrival of Dr. Behan as a member of the Safe Harbor team," states Jonathan Evans, President and Chief Executive Officer. "Dr. Behan brings community clinical experience as a psychiatrist and will be an integral part of our adult clinical and administrative teams."

Behan is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American Psychiatric Association and has served as a delegate to the Residency Committee of the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society. He also co-authored "Implications of G-protein-Mediated calcium Channel Inhibition for Neurotransmitter Release and Facilitation," with Richard Bertram, Ph.D. that was published in the Journal of Computational Neurophysiology. Behan also received a Commendation of the Dean for Academic Excellence, was a charter member of the Spirituality in Medicine Volunteer Program and Psi Sigma Alpha Honor Society member while at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM).

A graduate of LECOM, Behan completed postgraduate training with an internship and residency in psychiatry at Millcreek Community Hospital.

Safe Harbor is a private, non-profit human service agency that provides intensive outpatient psychiatric and counseling services to individuals and families and offers 24-hour-a-day crisis intervention to any individual in Erie County who is experiencing a disturbance of mood, thought, emotion, behavior, or social functioning. Safe Harbor has been recognized as a "Model Program" statewide in the development and implementation of crisis services and the delivery of innovative outpatient services to individuals and families.
